Ganesha statue presented with 3.5kg gold crown
A statue of Lord Ganesha
was presented with a 3.5kg gold crown at a temple in Singapore to mark the
birthday of the Hindu deity.
The crown, which cost 150,000 Singapore dollars (£49,601) was purchased with
money raised by devotees and visitors to the temple.
The crown installed on the statue of the Hindu god is considered to be the
largest of its kind.
Celebrations took place in the Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple, which is 150 years
old and boasts the largest statue of Lord Ganesha in south-east Asia.
According to the news channel, the rare crowning ceremony has never taken place
in Singapore before.
Lord Ganesha is considered by Hindus to be the god of knowledge and the remover
of obstacles and has a devoted following in India and parts of China.
The four-handed deity has the face of an elephant and is often depicted riding
on a mouse.
