Keira Knightley
snaps 20,000 gold necklace on film shoot
Clumsy actress Keira
Knightley had to ask permission to break a gold necklace when the clasp became
jammed on the set of the period drama Atonement.
The £20,000 necklace, on loan from Chanel, caused the crew to halt filming for
45 minutes when the actress found she could not remove it after shooting a key
scene.
Eventually, Knightley's assistants had to contact the jeweller's headquarters in
Paris.
"We had to phone Chanel to ask if we could just break it," she said sheepishly.
Chanel loaned more than £100,000 worth of jewellery for the film, according to
the Sunday Mail, including the onyx and white gold necklace.
Hortense Izac, a spokeswoman for Chanel, told the newspaper that jewellery plays
an integral part in the film.
"In one scene Keira has a small star in her hair and she loses it in the carpet
and ultimately something happens because of that."
The newspaper reported that the necklace was returned to Chanel for repair.
