New home for
Chinese gold-plated bells
The Zenghouyi Chime
Bells, considered to be among China's most significant historical artefacts, are
getting a new home.
The bells will be relocated to the new Chime Bells Hall in the Hubei Museum,
which is twice the size of the previous hall, according to Chinese Central
Television.
Each of the 65 bells features a gold-plated music-related inscription and is
capable of emitting two tones.
After the bells have undergone routine maintenance, they will be hung in
three-tiered array in the museum on a rack weighing more than 2,000kg.
Estimated to be over 1,000 years old, the Zenghouyi Chime Bells are still fully
functional and can play a variety of local, modern and classic music.
The television channel reports that the gold-plated bells will be ready for
public display on November 6th.
According to the Hubei Museum, the Chime Bells Hall will also house other
historically significant artefacts from the Zenghouyi tomb excavation, including
gold cups, musical instruments and swords that are approximately 2,000 years
old.
