Rise in Turkish
gold jewellery exports
Gold jewellery exports
from Turkey have risen in the first seven months of the year, it has been
revealed.
Reuters reports that gold jewellery exports from the country increased by 17.1
per cent during this period, reaching 51.5 tonnes.
According to Reuters, Turkey is one of the world's top three exporters of gold.
"In financial terms, exports in the first seven months reached $644.8 million,
up 29.2 percent year-on-year, according to data obtained from the exporters'
association yesterday," Reuters reports.
Jewellery producers told Reuters that the increase in sales is as a result of
Turkish development of new export markets like Russia and steadier gold prices.
During the first seven months of 2007, Turkish exports to the United Arab
Emirates rose by 65 per cent and gold jewellery shipments to Russia increased by
157 per cent in this period.
Mineweb recently reported that Turkey's gold imports increased in July reaching
45.7 tonnes.
