Mined diamonds often require hours of child labor, and many other disturbing facts, which people consider simply unethical. Many celebrities have voiced out against this problem, and they wear only man-made diamonds. For example, Angelina Jolie now wears only man-made diamonds to speak out against the ethical issues for mined diamonds. Another common issue that is faced with mined diamonds are "blood diamonds." Blood diamonds are diamonds that are sold and all the profits are used for the country's war effort. This is popular mostly in Africa, due to the political instability in many of the countries on the continent. Although the United Nations has stepped in and made sure that the profits aren't going towards revolutionary efforts, many say that the diamonds often fall in the wrong hands; which means that the money is easily going into the wrong places. In 2006, research showed that the easiness of smuggling diamonds makes it easy to sell in foreign countries and use the money for wrongful causes.
